Description: I’m not much for biographies but I’ll read anything that has anything to do with Cleopatra, so I picked this up many years ago as a smallish child, after stealing it from my mother’s bookshelf, and loved the content I did manage to sift through. Now that I can read bigger words, I read it again and flew through it.

I would recommend it to ladies (and gents) of all ages, who are coping with any kind of schedule, be it open or super busy. When you work full time, or have kids to raise, or a social life to have, it is really hard to make progress on a book. It’s like it never ends! It becomes a chore. Not the case here, as the chapters are broken into manageable sections chock-full of information about a historical Bad Girl of your choosing. The mini-biography format really saves time, and doesn’t make reading a chore or a hassle. Additionally, the included pictures are really top-notch.

The only downfall to this book is, it’s a big sucker. I’m a mobile reader, if it doesn’t fit in my purse/pocket, it’s not coming with me anywhere. As far as I know, this is only printed as a coffee table book, and I would actually applaud if I saw someone toting this thing around to read on the bus or a lunch break. You almost always have to read at home.

The first half of the book was beautifully written and included many Bad Girls that I had already heard of and was intrigued to know more about. My personal favourites were Cleopatra (of course), as well as Elisabeth Bathory, Catherine the Great, and Mary I of England. The second half had some lesser know Bad Girls, who weren’t quite as intriguing, but it was nice to read about them anyway. Honourable mentions: Chicago May, Typhoid Mary Mallon, and Mata Hari.

I did notice that the second half felt less polished than the first, as if it had seen fewer edits, but everything did flow nicely and it made for a great read.

10/10 would recommend, but I would suggest mixing things up to keep the stories fresh. Alternate between lesser knowns, and the madly famous Bad Girls.
